What is an SFB?
SFB is short for “Spezialforschungsbereich“, or Special Research Program. With a grant from the Austrian Science Fund FWF and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft DFG, up to 15 scientists can form this internationally visible research network to explore challenging questions in greater depth at one location.
Why is collaborative research so vital? Imagine combining the expertise of leading academics, cutting-edge technology, and the opportunities of modern research institutions. This fusion of knowledge not only fosters innovative solutions but also accelerates advancements that shape our world. By sharing resources, facilities, and technologies, we reduce costs and increase efficiency, making high-quality research accessible to all.
By integrating insights from various experts, we tackle complex challenges with fresh perspectives, leading to breakthroughs that wouldn't be possible in isolation. This exchange of ideas fuels creativity and drives the development of future technologies and methodologies.
Our Special Research Program also promotes global networking, broadening the impact of our research on an international scale. Collaborative efforts enhance training and education opportunities, nurturing the next generation of scientists who will continue to push the boundaries of optical metrology.
